In honor of human trafficking awareness month, JLNW participated in the “Little Black Dress Initiative” to raise funds (over $3,000)and awareness of this important issue making it “unfashionable”. During the week long initiative, participating members wore a black dress or some kind of black ensemble for five consecutive days, distributed flyers, and participated in a symbolic walk. Our final event was a panel discuss entitled “Our Youth at Risk for Sexual Exploitation”. The well-attended event was extremely informative and truly eye-opening. The over-arching message of the event was to educate yourself about human trafficking and the commerical sexual exploitation of children, understand that it’s happening in Westchester, and if you see something, say something!
