Community Impact

The Junior League of Northern Westchester’s Members are Passionate About Making ours a Better Community for All!

With the creation of the Mount Kisco Child Care Center in the 1970’s, the founding of the Northern Westchester Shelter, (now Hope’s Door) in 1980, the restoration of Muscoot Farm in the 1980’s, the establishment of the Teen Education Center at the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Westchester in 2006, and work on many other projects, big and small, member initiatives have a positive and lasting impact on our neighborhoods.

Researching challenging community needs in conjunction with our community partners, members initiate issue-based community impact projects or expand current services to meet those needs.

The JLNW provides administrative, financial, and volunteer support for its projects. Current programs and community needs are evaluated on an on-going basis. In cooperation with its Community Advisory Council and Partners, the league facilitates the permanent sponsorship of its programs through local organizations.

Members have apply their energy, training and skills to address the increasing need of local families and children for food, shelter and clothing. Our community projects — Holiday Sharing Drive, Backpack Buddies, and Mount Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry and Kids in the Kitchen, predominantly focus on the issues of hunger and a healthy livestyle.

As part of the New York State Public Affairs Committee of The Junior Leagues of New York, we have a strong local, regional and state advocacy program to raise community and legislative awareness of Children’s Nutrition.

All of these initiatives, as well as our planning for future programming, aim to improve the lives of families and children throughout Northern Westchester.

“The Backpack Buddies program is an important component of the multifaceted child nutrition program at the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Westchester. Our partnership with the Junior League of Northern Westchester is invaluable to us to help us make sure that no club member goes hungry. The B&G Club and JLNW have a long-term relationship that continues to work together to help those most in need in our community.” — Brian Skanes, Exectutive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester.
